One of the highlights of any trip to the airport is a walk on the moving sidewalk. If you are like me, most times you build up a head of steam with your suitcase in tow, and jump onto the moving sidewalk in the passing lane on the left so that you can blow by those who are standing still (for some odd reason). As you strut like a super human, you glance to either side and notice that you are lapping those who have chosen to take the path of mortals, tugging their luggage along on the carpet….It’s fun riding on moving sidewalk, isn’t it?!
There’s a familiar verse of Scripture found in the New Testament: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13 Not some things, but ALL things. It is quite a promise, really. And one that we are quick to recite, though the question often is, how can we tap into the strength of Jesus so that we can stand up to the challenges that we face every day?!
The secret to this strength isn’t heavy lifting or protein shakes. Rather, the strength of the risen Christ is found in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the power of God living in those who trust in Jesus. This mysterious Spirit gives understanding, wisdom and strength. Much like a person on a moving sidewalk in an airport, the Holy Spirit enables us to do things – love, serve, give – much better than we could ever do on our own.
Put into action: What challenges await you today? Step into the Holy Spirit and find the strength of Jesus as you walk along the way.! Put this verse into action this week! “So I say, walk by the Spirit…” – Galatians 5:16
