Hear No Evil, See no Evil, Speak No Evil

Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil- Ok how many of you have channeled those three little monkeys in a picture with friends or used these emojis? I know that I have. I think that these 3 monkeys have a lot of wisdom in their message. To me, they are saying if you hear no evil, see no evil then you will speak no evil. Almost like 2 actions and a reaction.
This leads us to the verse in Philippians.
Brothers and sisters think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected. Philippians 4:8
I think in today’s world this is something we have to fight on a daily basis. There is so much around us that tell us what we should look like, how we should love, how much money we should have…. the list goes on and on. We get this from the TV we are watching, the books we read and music we listen to. Heck, you can’t even stand in line at the grocery store with out seeing who has cheated on who or which celeb has been arrested. So with all of this surrounding us it is imperative as Christians that we guard our minds and guard our hearts. We have to be SO choosy about what we tune in to and what we fill our minds with. You know that old saying: “You are what you eat.” This implies that you are what you fill yourself with- this translates (if not more) into what we fill our minds with.
We are such creatures of habit and if we are consuming ourselves with worldly norms we quickly become that norm. And that is a terrifying reality. But what if our norm was to instantly help or speak encouragement into others? Can you imagine how productive we would all be if we had a Christ-like mindset?
Put into action: Click the power off button on your car radio and spend time in prayer. A couple of years ago, I had some big decisions in front of me and wanted to make a decision that pleased God. In hopes to get clarity, I fasted from my radio and took that time to pray in my car……I spend a lot of time in my car so this was a pretty big challenge. Talk about clarity and a renewing of my mind. So rather than hearing the morning Battle of the Roses or mediocre music filling my car and my mind. My mind was focused on Christ and His beautiful song for my day.
