The arrival of Labor Day brought goodbye to Summer and hello to Fall – an exciting time for Be Free Revolution and The Rev. September is here, and we could not be more excited about fall colors; boots and scarves; cozy drinks; and most of all the work our September mission team is about to do in Kenya and Uganda, the arrival of our Kenyan sister, friend, and teammate, Priscilla; and the Grand Opening of The Rev in October! Check out the calendar below to get an update of all that is happening and a list of the upcoming events you can be a part of.
August 26th: BFR & The Rev Update – The office spaces have been completed at The Rev, and we have been working hard to prepare the interior of the retail and coffee shop space for the Grand Opening. Last week, we hosted an open house event where past mission team members shared dinner, memories and laughs. We were able to show the vision for the future of The Rev through sketches and a tour of the space. Team members covered the walls with individual prayers for The Rev, BFR crew members, and all the visitors that The Rev will bring inside its doors. Our Cornerstone Team pledged to raise awareness and funds so that we can get The Rev off the ground and running. Our hope is that it can be an inspirational place for the greater Memphis area and all that come to visit. We are truly thankful for their support, and we trust that God has big plans for this place!
September 10th: BFR Mission Team Ships Out – Our September mission team departs for Africa this day, and we are anxious to see what opportunities and positive change they can provide for the men, women and children overseas. This trip is new and exciting, because instead of working in one country over the course of 10 days, the team will be traveling to both Kenya and Uganda. They will work with all of our leaders and students at Smile Africa, Pehucci Children’s Home and Wings of Life School. Additionally, they will be exploring new territory in hopes of future opportunities and partnerships in Kisumu! Each individual on the team will be on our minds and in our hearts.
September 20th: Priscilla Arrives – After a week of mission, the team will arrive back in Memphis. This time though, our dear friend, teammate, and Papers of Peace Coordinator, Priscilla, will be with them! Those of us who are staying behind in Memphis will be anxiously awaiting their arrival! We feel so blessed that Priscilla will be here with us for many exciting events in October including the Grand Opening of the Rev. She is truly a visionary, has a large hand in the overall mission of BFR and is a symbol of strength and hope for the kids at Wings of Life School in Kbera.
October 7th: Share My Story – You have the chance to meet Priscilla and hear about the amazing things she is doing with the help of our teams in Kenya at the Share My Story event. Come enjoy a traditional African dinner and hear how Wings of Life school was started, how it has grown from 5 kids to 285, her new journey to her college degree and how through BFR she has been able to provide over 18,000 meals to kids. Stay tuned for more details to come.
October 11th: Passport to The Rev – It has become tradition for BFR to host an annual event, we like to call, Passport. This year, we decided to take you somewhere new – somewhere that will be right here in your own city. Passport to the Rev will take place here in our new coffee shop/storefront located in Brookhaven Circle. Complete with music from DJ Brady Johnston at Unbelievable Entertainment and catering by Just For Lunch, you’ll be the first to preview the space, shop the new give-brack brands, and see the selection of coffees, teas, and sodas that will be served at The Rev!

October 20th: The Journey Series – Refresh and renew mind, body, spirit, at the Journey Series, which will be taking place on Mondays in October and November. Take a few hours a week to focus on bettering yourself as an individual so you can be better at home, at your workplace, with your friends and with God. Try new activities, and listen to inspirational speakers that will focus on multiple topics, impacting your life as a whole in a positive and inspiring way. The Journey Series dates are October 20th, 27th, November 3rd and November 10th. Email Morgan ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) for more info.
October 17th and 18th: The Rev Grand Opening – Finally, after many many months of hard work planning, designing, collaborating, shopping for new brands, and tasting local and Kenyan coffees and teas, we can announce the Rev’s Grand Opening!!! The idea of The Rev has been brewing in our co-founders’ minds for quite some time. At last, we are able to bring to Memphis the culture, experience, inspiration and most of all, the LOVE that we have felt with our mission of BFR! We are privileged to be able to share this with our own community and hope that you can join us on October 17th and 18th to make this time even more special.
October 21st: Mission-Minded Kids – The end of October brings a new kind of class to The Rev. As many of you know, part of our mission at Be Free Revolution is to focus on empowerment and creating opportunities for the next generation of youth. As cliche as it may sound, we want to create future world changers! This new class will offer an opportunity for kids to Go. Serve. Lead. Love. right here in our own community while offering games, songs, crafts and stories that will encourage your child to think, learn and grow globally. Don’t wait until you’re grown up, be a missionary today! Classes start Tuesday, October 21st and take place each Tuesday until December 9th. The cost is $95 per child. Different time slots are available depending on your child’s age group. Sign up today!

We genuinely could not be more thrilled about the future that The Rev holds! Open to everyone – people from all walks of life, all cultures and all beliefs. We hope we can connect with you through a class, a shopping experience, or maybe just a cup of coffee, and with that, we hope that you’ll share a little bit of yourselves with us. Maybe, together, we can create an environment that brings together two cultures so vastly different and so intimately close all at the same time; a place that represents that inexplicable feeling of love that becomes so familiar when you step off the van and into the schools in Africa; a place that truly embodies what life should look like when we live as we are supposed to and give unconditionally; a place, that after all this time, can give you the same inspiration that has been given to us and called us to do what we do.
